Performance Coach 2024 registration and training

31.07.24

We’ve confirmed the training dates and registration process for the 2024 cohort for our Performance Coach qualification. We’re also pleased to announce that Tom Greenall, former GB Climbing Head Coach, will be leading on coordination and delivery of the qualification as our new Coaching Development Officer.

Interested in applying this year? Here’s everything you need to know:

Registrations for Performance Coach will open on Monday 5th August for three weeks.

The dates for this year’s training can be found in the Courses section of the Performance Coach page. Please check the dates to make sure you can attend them all before committing to register.

A complete registration requires the following:

  1. You must be a qualified Development Coach
  2. You must have a substantial depth and breadth of personal climbing experience, and provide evidence of having successfully climbed (onsight) up to 7a within your climbing career.
  3. You must have delivered over 200 hours of relevant coaching and logged these sessions (ideally in DLOG) in order to provide evidence of the quantity and quality of coaching.
  4. You must have completed FUNdamentals of Climbing 1, 2 and 3, and Physical Training 1.
  5. You must provide evidence of appropriate (and current) first aid and safeguarding training.
  6. There must be a reference in the Referee tab of your DLOG, in support of your registration application.
  7. You must log in to your account and register for the Performance Coach qualification (cost £95).
  8. After you have paid the registration fee you must go to the ‘Share’ tab of your DLOG and click the ‘Send to MT’ button to let us know your DLOG is ready to be reviewed.

In 2023 we required potential candidates to provide evidence of prior learning about mental skills and physical training (beyond Physical Training 1). This is no longer required as both of these elements have been built into the training schedule for the 2024 cohort.

Once we receive the request to review your DLOG will perform some initial checks and if everything is in place we will add you the list to be screened.

Any Performance Coach registrations received in 2023 or prior to this new process being agreed, will be considered only when all prerequisites listed above have been fulfilled. This includes submitting your DLOG to us for review.

Registrations for the 2024 cohort will end at 9am on Tuesday 27th August. Complete registrations will be reviewed by the screening committee and the first 12 successful candidates will form the 2024 cohort. Beyond the first 12, we may approve additional candidates with the necessary experience and they will be auto-enrolled on the next cohort – dates TBC depending on the number approved. All applicants will be notified about the outcome of their registration application on 5th-6th September 2024.
