Met Office Weather Workshops 2024
26.01.23for Mountain Training Association members
We are very happy to present our sixth year of collaboration work with the Met Office delivering specialist weather workshops to members around the UK.
These sessions have been carefully designed to support the syllabi of Mountain Training's qualifications as well as to enhance the knowledge of leaders and instructors. They focus on the practical application of information gained from weather forecasts during the planning stage and dynamically whilst out in the hills, moors and mountains.
The Met Office are keen to engage with our community of members to reach walkers and climbers of mountains, hills, moors and lowland. Having our members pass on information to help the public understand how to use forecast information which enables them to make informed decisions whilst enjoying their time in the great outdoors.
The workshops are being delivered by a team of experts from the Met Office, led by Dr. Mike Reading, Senior Operational Meteorologist from the Met Office in Aberdeen.
"This was an excellent day led by a very knowledgeable trainer. I liked Mike's clear style of delivery and the progression of information throughout the day...I feel much better informed about meteorology and it was very good that the material was linked to our work as mountain leaders"
Jon Dallimore, December 2023
"Having two experts, who are also keen mountaineers/climbers, meant the session was really well targeted at the intended audience, they obviously are experts in the field of weather forecasting, but being able to tailor that knowledge to what mountaineers would want to know made the session very, very good. Thank you."
